6 You became imitators of us and of the Lord, for you welcomed the message in the midst of severe suffering with the joy given by the Holy Spirit. 7 And so you became a model to all the believers in Macedonia and Achaia. 8 The Lord’s message rang out from you not only in Macedonia and Achaia—your faith in God has become known everywhere. 1 Thessalonians 1:7 NIV
Paul was bragging about the Thessalonians converts who had accepted the Word and stood firm in their faith. The world around them could see the change and news spread of their radiant faith.
“You became imitators of us and the Lord,” caught my attention this morning. Their lives were so full of Christ that they became the gospel to their world. They were following the example that Paul, Timothy and Silas had taught them. These were Paul’s children (disciples) in Christ; therefore, they exhibited that same joy that Paul had. They accepted the truth from his lips and his example before them.
Oh, if this could be our desire and desire of our churches, that others see Christ through us and will join with us in following Christ. Not that we are perfect or flawless, but like Peter, we are continually running toward Christ. Wherever we see Him at work, we want to run to be there with Him.
Jesus, help us to be world changers. Help our churches to be full of world changers. Oh, Father, we can’t change even one person, but you can change us and use us to be an example that others want to follow us as we follow YOU! That can be so scary, but we know it’s not about us, but what you are doing in us that attracts others to You! May we yield this day to You for Your purposes and Your glory. Work in our minds today and give us clear thinking. Thank You for loving and transforming us to reflect Your example and glory!
