Joshua 5:11 On the day after Passover, on that very day, they ate some of the produce of the land, unleavened bread, and roasted grain. 12 And the manna ceased on the day after they had eaten some of the produce of the land, so that the Israelites no longer had manna, but they ate some of the produce of the land of Canaan during that year.
After the Israelites had been circumcised and the reproach of their fathers removed from them, they celebrated Passover. They had crossed into Canaan but were still living on manna. Then God opened the land to them and gave them the delights He had promised. He then took away the manna.
I wonder what that must have been like for them. Suddenly they were feasting on milk and honey, but they had to give up that which had sustained them for their entire lives. They were familiar with manna and had 200 different recipes for manna stew, roasted manna, manna gravy over more manna…. Maybe it wasn’t the best, but it was still all they knew. So, did they welcome this wonderful supply of all kinds of different foods they had never tasted, or did some want to return to the manna they were used to? God gives, and God takes away. Blessed be the name of the Lord! Are we willing to allow Him to give and take away in our lives, or do we cling to the same old same old?
Lord, help us to accept blessings from Your hand. This should be very easy, but for those who do not like change, it can be more difficult. Help us never to miss a blessing because we fail to give up the old because it is comfortable and “that’s the way we’ve always done it.” Help us to find joy in all your ways and taste and see what God is doing and that the Lord is always good!
